Two 15 minute sketches waiting for my Waltzing Class to start in the Bastille Quarter
Saturday July 18 afternoon
For some reason I can’t help but to fall in love with the Bastille Quarter. Whether I’m at a dance class in the afternoon, taking a morning walk with the class or just connecting to a different metro line, I simply fall in love. When I’m interested in a place, I’m absorbed to draw or sketch it (not very interested in making photos) – and there are so many moments in Bastille that make me feel this way.
If you are ever in Paris, check out Promenade Plantée by Jacques Vergely and Philippe Mathieux completed around 1969, I believe. It could be considered an early rendition of the Highline Park in New York by DS+R.
The Promenade Plantee website isn’t very modern but even so, you cannot fully understand the experience until you witness the different moments that this promenade frames. Is has amazing views and great photo opportunities.

Samples of my Paris sketchbook.
The technique of this sketchbook is very different from my Barcelona sketchbook. In Barcelona, I took the time to analyze the thoughts and ideas I had about the spaces I visited. Here, I had 250+ colorful pages, a pocket full of vibrant colors, and a 5-8 minute sketching rule, and moved on to the next.

Animal Collective à La Cigale
I had the opportunity to see Animal Collective at SONAR- Barcelona and here in Paris this summer. I’m very thankful to have seen this favorite group in person.

Today was again “amazing”. This morning’s stress filled mid review pinup was relaxed with tea prepared by Yong straight from China. It was the first day we were all complete because Eric Olsen (another incredible professor and character to complete the already exceptional Paulette Singley and Ingalill Wahlroos-Ritter)
After a much needed hour long nap, we head out for Bastille Day Celebrations - cheese and wine at the professors’ abode and then evening fireworks at the Eiffel tower. Now, those were some real fireworks. The best I’ve ever seen.
